A Turn Table (TT) is probably the most valuable peripheral if you are a audiophile. After much research I went with the Project Debut Carbon (purchased from Audio Advisor). Being an engineer, the composite tone arm sealed the deal for me.

Here are some images that show the steps I took to assemble the TT.

Some random ramblings:

I frequently hear people mentioning, that they do not enjoy music like they used to “back in the day”, and I think there is a very valid reason for that.

As humans, I feel touching is a very important part of the experience. Just the simple joy of taking a record out of a sleeve, and placing it on the TT, lowering the arm, and listening to the music. It just feels right.

My choice of medium has always been Vinyl, CD and lastly MP3. MP3 is good when you have a party going on and you want some background music for 100 hours non-stop. But when I want to “listen” to your music, I seem to gravitate back to my Vinyl. I can fatigue listening to music from MP3’s pretty quickly, but when i play my Vinyl… I can listen for hours on end. Maybe there is a scientific explanation behind this, like the compression in the music, all the information that is lost, which are not interpreted directly by the brain, but are done unconsciously by the body etc, etc.

the process is important. I have all forms of music including CD, tape, vinyl and mp3. I agree that mp3 is easy to play, and yes at some point you can have enough info crammed into it that it might sound better than anything else on the planet, but… in of all the forms of music I have, I love my vinyl most. And it has nothing to do with the quality.

There is a lot of nostalgia associated with vinyl, thus there will always be a market for it. I don’t think most people listen to vinyl only because of it’s “pure sound”, because it isn’t. If someone is under this misimpression, they should NOT invest in vinyl.

There will always be a market for some things, in a physical form, besides in a digital form. Similarly, I have a ton of movies, both in electronic format as well as DVD BR’s.

I grew up listening to vinyl, and hence associate with it.

People who never had vinyl growing up, will never be able to associate with it.
