So… my son noticed that there was ice accumulating around the freezer chute in my GE fridge. I called the local repairman, says, he’ll be there as soon as possible. Call him after a week, same answer. After the 3rd week, I gave up! I had to to this on my own.

Now that I had taken things into my own hands, I had to figure this thing out. I followed the standard procedure: Look at the system, identify the potential parts that might be causing an issue. Flapper thingi, Ice door not closing? I wasnt sure. I googled and found a few videos that showed what was going on. Basically, the solenoid that helps open/close the flapper was probably rusted and hence not moving up and down smoothly. I selected one (video) that seemed to be the best suited for my fridge (link given below), did a dry run of disassembling the plate, to make sure it was something I could handle. Dry run was successful. I now identified the part number and ordered it online.
Once the part came in, replacing it was a breeze. Thanks much to the video for making it so obvious :-). Some images shown below.

As you can see, the solenoid was really rusty. Not sure how, the fridge is barely 6 years old! But after the replacement, the door is now closing perfectly and as they say Problem Solved!!! Another successful DIY project. Saved a couple of (100) bucks too… Yaay!!!
